Rayce
You may have noticed that we misspelled the word "race". In fact, rayce is the term used to describe a solar vehicle race. (A race using rays of sunlight, get it?) The rayce the team is currently planning on competing in is the World Solar Challenge 2009. The rayce is across the Australian content from Darwin south to Adelaide, a trip of approximately 3,000 km (see the map below, courtesy of the World Solar Challenge). Solar raycing is much more about speed than endurance. Teams travel down public highways and must keep to any assigned speed limits. The goal in solar raycing is to build a vehicle that can keep up with these speed limits and last as long as possible without breaking down.
